Greetings Fellow Sonoma County Republicans,

The 2012 Election Season is upon us now in full swing.  I do hope that you have had the opportunity to watch some of the presidential debates.  This is a very significant election and educating ourselves on the issues is just as important as ever.  Stay tuned for upcoming email annoucements about Debate Parties.  These have been fun and well attended in the past.

On Wednesday, February 15 the Sonoma County Republican Party’s Central Committee will host our monthly meeting.  We will be hearing from and interviewing Republican candidates that are running for Congress and Assembly in the districts that include portions of Sonoma County.  I would invite you to come meet these candidates and ask questions of your own to help us determine the best choice for party endorsement.  The meeting is held at 1421 Guerneville Road, Santa Rosa and begins at 7:00pm.

We are also gearing up to begin a series of house parties all over the county to educate and engage our Republican neighbors.  I will be looking for your help with this project.  We are looking for Republicans willing to host a neighborhood gathering, we will invite all of the Republicans in your precinct to come hear about the Party and the upcoming election and we will provide a speaker from the Party.  All you need to do is open up your home, make a pot of coffee and maybe a batch of cookies and be prepared to make some new friends.  If you are interested in hosting one of our precinct house parties, please let me know.

There is much work to be done to bring about Victory in 2012.  I look forward to partnering with you in the months to come.

November 11, 2011 –

I find it hard to believe that December is only a month away. It seems like 2011 has flown by. The 2012 elections are right around the corner. Due to passage of Prop. 14, we will have a “top two” primary in California, which means that there is much to be done in early 2012 to educate and motivate Republican Voters to get to the polls and support our candidates in June. Only by hard work, will we ensure that our candidates make it into the top two so that voters have a Republican choice next November.

As I am sure you are aware, government at the Federal, State and Local level is out of control. The idea of limited government seems to be little more than a pipe dream. I had the opportunity recently to speak to a group of conservatives in Sonoma with regards to property rights. The questions and comments exchanged highlighted to me the importance of reminding myself daily to re-examine the motivations of our Founders when they built the original government of our nation. They were not politicians, they were farmers, doctors, lawyers, merchants, shippers…in general they were small business owners. They came together to built a nation where freedom and liberty would never be in short supply.

I look at America today and I can not help but feel as though it hardly resembles the place that our Founding Fathers envisioned when our Constitution was conceived. Every time the government passes a new law limiting the rights and freedoms of the American people, a piece of the American dream is destroyed, likely never to be recovered. The rate at which socialism in deteriorating our founding principles by means of governmental controls to “protect the little guys” is accelerating at an alarming pace. Our Elected Officials need to be reminded that they were elected to represent the people, not to control the people.

Moving forward our Republican Party should do all we can to limit further government intercention in our lives and do all that we are able to roll back many of the interventions already in place. I believe returning freedom to the people of America is the way that we will win more votes in the future. Americans are so overburdened by the weight and restrictions of our own government that we can no longer grow and thrive as a free people.

I can’t help but be reminded of our Declaration of Independence that tells us that government is instituted to “secure the rights of the people” and that “whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute new Government… and to provide new Guards for their future security.”

I hope that you will join us in our efforts to build a stronger Republican Party in Sonoma County.
